The Government of Northwest Territories designed this program for all the residents of NWT. To attain full class 5 graduated driving license it will take minimum 2 years.

Eligibility applying for NWT Graduated License:
- Applicant must be a resident of NWT.
- Applicant’s age must be 17 years or above.
NWT Graduated License stages:
The residents of NWT who are willing to apply graduated driving license they have to go through the 3 different stages.
Stage1 / Learner Class7:
- Applicant must be a resident of NWT.
- Applicant’s age must be 15 years or above.
- Applicant must pass the written test.
- Duration of this stage1 or Learner class7 will be of 12 months.
Restrictions in Stage1 / Learner Class7:
- NWT Class 5 Learner Stage (L) holder should maintain zero blood alcohol concentration.
- Must drive under the super vision of a full stage driver.
- Supervising full stage driver should sit in the front seat.
- Supervising full stage driver must hold a valid Class 5 Full stage License.
- Supervising full stage driver should be under, 0.05 blood alcohol concentration.
Stage2 / Probationary Class5P:
- Applicant must be a resident of NWT.
- Applicant’s age must be 16 years or above.
- Applicant must complete the 12 months learner period.
- Applicant must pass the practical road exam.
- Duration of this Stage2 / Probationary Class5P will be of 12 months.
Restrictions in Stage2 / Probationary Class5P:
- No supervisor is required while driving.
- Only one passenger is allowed in the front seat.
Stage3 / Full Class5:
- Applicant must complete the Class 5P 12 months probationary period.
- After the successful completion of the probationary period applicant will be eligible for applying the NWT full class 5 drivers’ license.
