Prince Edward Island Graduated Drivers License System:
The Government of Prince Edward Island introduced this Graduated Drivers License system for the beginners who are residing in PEI Province. The residents of PEI Province, who is willing to apply or applying, they must apply for the learner license under the Graduated Drivers License system. This program consists of 3 phases where the new drivers who are applying must complete these 3 phases successfully. Prince Edward Island Graduated Drivers License system 3 stages are:
- Stage 1 (L).
- Stage 2 (G).
- Stage 3 (G).

PEI GDL Stage1:
- Applicant must be a resident of Prince Edward Islands Province.
- Applicant’s age must be 16 years or above.
- Applicant must pass the written test.
- Duration of this Stage will be 12 months.
Restrictions in PEI GDL Stage1:
- PEI GDL Stage1 Learner License holder should maintain zero blood alcohol concentration.
- Must drive under the supervision of a full stage driver.
- Supervising full stage driver should sit in the front seat.
- Supervising full stage driver must hold a valid Class 5 Full stage License.
- Supervising full stage driver should be under, 0.05 blood alcohol concentration.
Note:
After the successful 12 months period as a Stage 1 license holder, the holder must pass the road test to get into the PEI GDL Stage 2.

- Duration of this Stage 2 will be 12 months.
Restrictions in PEI GDL Stage2:
- PEI GDL Stage 2 License holder should maintain zero blood alcohol concentration.
- Holder should not drive between midnight and 5:00 AM.
- Only limited number of passengers.
Note:
After passing the road test, PEI GDL Stage2 License holder will be issued class 5 driver’s license and decal “G”. You have to carry this Decal “G” on the windshield while the holder is driving.
PEI GDL Stage3:
The duration of this stage 3 will be for 12 months.
Restrictions in PEI GDL Stage3:
- Applicant must be a resident of Prince Edward Island Province.
- Applicant must submit the Graduation Certificate.
- Duration of this Phase 3 will be 12 months.
Restrictions in Phase3:
- PEI GDL Stage 2 License holder should maintain zero blood alcohol concentration.
Note:
After the successful completion of PEI GDL Stage2, the applicant must continue to carry the Decal “G” on the windshield while driving.
How to Change the Personal information like Name, Date of Birth, Height, Gender and Address on Prince Edward Island Driver’s License?
The Government of PEI Province is providing this facility to all the PEI Driver’s License holders. By using this facility PEI Driver’s License holder can apply for the update or edit or change of their personal information (like Name, Height, Address and date of birth) which is present on their PEI Driver’s License.

In what mode PEI driver’s license replacement applicant should pay the fees?
The residents of PEI Province, who are applying for the replacement of lost or stolen or damaged driver’s license can pay the fees by cash or Credit card, Debit Card (Visa or Master are accepted) or you can pay the fees by money order or cheque.
Prince Edward Island Driver’s License Exam Appointments:
The Government of Prince Edward Island provides this facility to all the residents of PEI Province. To get the PEI driver’s license the resident of PEI Province should appear for written knowledge test and a behind-the-wheel driving test (for all the classes of 1 to 5 driver’s license) and must pass the written and drive tests.
- The beginner drivers of PEI province must apply for an Instruction driver’s permit and follow the Graduated Driver’s License program to get a full class 5 Driver’s license.
- Newcomers can use their foreign driver’s license up to 120 days in PEI Province, after the 3 months must exchange their current license with the PEI driver’s license.

How to get an Instruction Driver’s Permit/ Class 7 License / Beginners permit in Prince Edward Island?
The Government of Prince Edward Island issues Instruction driver’s permit to all the eligible residents of PEI Province. This PEI Instruction driver’s permit is also called as Class 7 License or Beginner’s permit. For example if any PEI resident who have registered for any certified driver education program, during the driver education program you will be conducted instruction driver’s permit test and at end of the driver education program instructor will conduct a road test, after the passing the road test they have to visit the Highway Safety Department to get the PEI photo driver’s license.
